3 Incredibly Instagrammable Spots in California

Annie Gabillet

Travel photographer and digital nomad Carley Rudd has been fortunate to see so many beautiful places around the world, but California remains at the top of her list. “The diversity of protected and untapped natural beauty makes California such a special place to explore,” she told us. Follow her on Instagram, and you’ll see how her photos of the California coast or desert feel right at home among shots of Greece or Morocco. If you’re hoping to give your travel photography — or your Instagram feed — new life, Carley says these three Golden State destinations are incredibly Instagrammable.

Big Sur

“The pure, untouched beauty along the coastline of Big Sur still takes my breath away,” Carley said. Dramatic cliffs and waterfalls falling into the striking blue waters of the Pacific Ocean are sure to get lots of likes — in person and on social media.

Unique rock structures, sand dunes, and other out-of-this-world beauty make Death Valley a photographer’s heaven. “One of my favorite sunrises I’ve ever seen was at Zabriskie Point,” Carley told us.

Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park is another favorite of Carley’s, thanks to magical desert sunrises and sunsets and the silhouettes of funky Joshua Trees. “The rock formations near Jumbo Rocks Campground is one of my favorite places to photograph,” Carley added.

While they’ll surely make for great Instagram shots, these California destinations are even better in person.
