Girl Guide to Tulum by Jess Ann Kirby

Beautiful beaches, drinks al fresco, colorful woven goods and turquoise oceans combine with rustic charm to make Tulum the perfect destination. Follow along as Jess Ann Kirby shows us how to make memories in Mexico.

Whether you prefer exploring historic sites, lounging by the pool or walking around town, there’s something for everyone in Tulum.

Beachside resorts & boutique hotels

Tulum is all about being on the ocean, so whether you prefer a big resort or a boutique hotel make sure to stay on the beach. The town is small enough to make the center of town accessible from just about anywhere. Make sure to stay somewhere with swings so you can get your perfect Instagram shot. My number one Tulum tip would be to wear bug spray and SPF!

Exploring, shopping, beaching & biking

There are loads of things to do in Tulum, whether you prefer exploring historic sites, lounging by the pool or walking around town. Renting bikes was probably my favorite. It’s really easy to get around on them and it’s a great way to get a feel for the layout of the town (and save on cabs!).

Shopping was great on the main street– “The Rodeo Drive” of Tulum, as some call it. You can find Mexican blankets, wool rugs, souvenirs, cute clothing and more. Last but not least, you must visit the ruins– they are not to be missed!

Tacos, guacamole & margaritas– swoon!

Mexican food is my all time favorite, I could eat it every day! Here are some of my favorites from the trip:

Coco Tulum had amazing guac, tacos and drinks. You can sit on the water and their iconic swings. For dinner, Pasado Margarita had a great veggie pasta and cocktail menu. Gitano had a yummy modern take on Mexican cuisine. I sat on the jungle side and enjoyed their tapas. I went to Papaya Playa for breakfast– they had great pancakes and cold press juices. Lastly, Matteo’s was delicious and we sat on the upper deck to watch the sunset.

Sun-kissed swimwear staples

I’m usually a bikini girl, but after trying these suits it’s safe to say that I’m a one piece convert. My favorite suit is the pink, red and white Sidestroke. It’s so cute with cut-offs for shopping and biking around town. It also looks polished paired with a maxi skirt to wear to dinner. The black Cannonball mesh tank is also great to throw on for drinks or shopping and looks so chic worn over the High Dive bikini top, which is a classic swimwear staple for me. I also love the high neck and colorblock of the Freestyle, it’s perfect for lounging by the pool.

The Sidestroke — This swimsuit is built to move with you, but stays perfectly in place where you need it most, thanks to the unique design and construction that offers stability and compression.

The Freestyle — With its high neck and adjustable straps, our Freestyle is ready for movement and ready for adventure. Finished in two-tone colorblock styling for a cool contrast.
